Volunteer Training at Spirit Ride!

SpiritRideSPIRIT RIDE is now offering a two-part course for those who wish to learn more about horses and their role in Therapeutic Riding. Participants will explore this fascinating alternative therapy that has proven beneficial for ASD, Cerebral Palsy, Physical and Cognitive disabilities as well as Emotional Disorders such as PTSD and depression. Those completing both classes will receive volunteer certification, however, all classes are open to the general public (residents and visitors welcome!).

SPIRIT RIDE TRAINING LEVEL 1:“Safety and Communication” (Open to the general public – All ages)

Tuesday, August 25th, 5-6:30pm OR Saturday, August 29, 9-10:30am
This class will cover general safety guidelines while interacting with horses as well as how to listen to what our equine friends are telling us. After the class, be sure to visit the goats, chickens and cows and feel free to ask any additional questions!

SPIRIT RIDE TRAINING LEVEL 2: “Connection and Care” (Geared toward those desiring to volunteer at Spirit Ride)

Thursday, August 27th, 5-6:30pm OR Saturday, August 29, 11am-12:30pm Participants will explore more in-depth methods of communication as well as barn management and general horse care.

No previous experience with horses or children with special needs is required. Those interested in volunteer certification must be at least 14 years of age and are required to attend both classes. After successfully completing the two-part course, participants will receive a Spirit Ride T-Shirt.

To register for Level I, Level II or both classes, please fill out our online form under the menu: Volunteer or email us at SpiritRideNC@gmail.com   Registration will also be taken at the door (actually the farm gate) but please arrive at least fifteen minutes early to register so that class may begin on time. Cost per person/per class is $10 (or $15 per person for both classes if paid in advance). Cash or check accepted – made out to Spirit Ride Inc.

**NOTE: Classes will be held outside. Participants are encouraged to bring water, insect repellant and sunscreen. Appropriate attire includes closed-toe shoes and long pants.
